What is Big data ? A new gold mine ?
Big Data has long been on everyone’s lips and is the subject of a lively debate. While its supporters point out the great usefulness of this big data that has emerged with digitisation, criticism is directed at the confidentiality of information. However, the concept is much more complex than it seems and that is why a definition of Big Data is necessary.
The volume of digital data has increased significantly. Ten minutes in 2014 was enough to generate as much data as those created by humanity since 2002. According to predictions, this mountain of data is growing steadily and has doubled in the space of two years. Its flow is due to the increasing digitization in all areas of the Web. Big Data was created by merging various data sources such as:
• Using the Internet on mobile devices
• Social networks
• Geolocation
• The cloud
• Measuring vital data
• Media streaming
Big Data refers not only to data but also to its analysis and use. We try to find models and what connects them to place them in a real context. The challenge is not only the large volume of data but also the speed of processing and the diversity of information. The flow is continuous within unstructured data. They are collected, stored and worked if possible in real time. An important data infrastructure is therefore necessary to be able to read and relate them correctly.
